Thoughtful Tuesdays: Dream Shaming

How many of you have had brilliant ideas that make your heart sing? Then you proceeded to share it with those that you love and got ridiculed? You are either called  a dreamer, unrealistic and told to be normal or its just a hobby. Without actually seeing the bigger picture, only YOU, who has that vision can see it.

When you can see beyond the mist and others can't.

When you can see beyond the mist and others can’t

I have talked about this before on my podcast. You eventually decide not to pursue your dreams and live a very unhappy and unfulfilled life. One thing that I find people should stop doing is REGRET. Don’t live a life of I wish I had, I wish I said, I wish I went. Just do it! You never know when you can’t.That’s why it is so important to feed your dreams and plan to make your heart’s desires become a reality. No dream is possible without work.

So what do we do? I have learnt that not sharing my dreams and putting in the work, works perfectly for me. Especially, with people that do not get it. That way no one will utter ” I told you so !” ( which has not happened yet, thank goodness) and I can focus solely on embarking the journey. Then when I finally achieve what I embarked on, its nice to hear the surprise, awe and wonder. A friend said once ” It is amazing that when you’re a child, you are raised to not worry about what other’s thought. Focus on yourself and do your best. As you grow older the same people want you to follow the rest.” How ironic is that?!

What are you willing to do to make your dreams come true? I don’t  know if I have stressed this enough, but writing down your goals. Writing down the things you want to achieve makes a HUGE difference. Write daily goals, monthly goals with the intention of achieving them. Writing goals–whatever they may be helps keep you on track and stay committed. The biggest reward is cancelling them out. When you are done, start all over!

Also be MINDFUL of your thoughts and try to keep positive. If you keep saying you don’t have money or can’t do this. It will be your truth. So make sure that you change your negative mindset into a positive one. For instance  instead of saying I don’t have money. Say something like this–“I may not have money right now, but its going to come.” Instead of saying ” I can’t!” Say ” I will try my best to do this.”

The Bible even says in  Habakuk 2: 2-3 “Then the LORD answered me and said, “Record the vision And inscribe it on tablets, That the one who reads it may run.For the vision is yet for the appointed time; It hastens toward the goal and it will not fail. Though it tarries, wait for it; For it will certainly come, it will not delay.…”  Basically if you have vision or idea write it down, do the work and be patient that all the hard work will pay. As its all about timing. There are loads of books that speak of  a similar idea or concept–the idea of the law of attraction.

I think Lupita’s speech just summarizes facts about fear, believing in yourself, writing your dreams down and acknowledging what your dream is with no shame.

Fear is not an option

Fear is not an option

I think everything was put in perspective when I stumbled on Lupita’s speech at a time when I was doubting myself  the part of her speech that resonated with me the most was “… it was the expectation from the larger society that kept me ashamed of the truth about what the desire of my heart really was.”

Another gem that I agree with 100% was this “… (There is this pressure for us to define ourselves as one thing from so early on; a pressure I do not agree with. We can and should be allowed to be more than one thing, especially when we are children.)..” –Being multifaceted, people are more than their description.

Be fearless and don’t be ashamed of your dream! Live it. love it  work for it and become it!

” Let your dreams be bigger than your fears, your actions louder than your words, and your faith stronger than your feelings.”- Unknown

Awesome! sometimes you just have to keep things to yourself because your dreams can be mocked to obscurity. It took me too long to become a designer because I was told I couldn’t. I’ve now learnt selective deafness.

Reblogged this on My Whimsical Soliloquy and commented:
When chasing your dreams sometimes feels so impossible and as though it were a fallacy, keep going, keep hoping and keep working. Life is only worth the greater living when we have dreams and chase them. Be different, in fact, DARE to be different. Be unforgivingly YOU!!! Much ???
